Pepper (robot)

Pepper is a wheeled humanoid reception robot, about 1.20 m tall, with a tablet on its chest. Designed by Aldebaran and then produced by SoftBank Robotics, it was the benchmark reception robot of 2015-2020; its production was suspended in 2021.

Pepper does not walk: it moves on a wheeled base and has no functional legs. Its arms are expressive but not powerful. Its main mode of interaction remains speech combined with the touchscreen on its chest.

It is still widely available on the French event hire market, at observed prices of about €950 to €2,500 excl. VAT per day. It is a legitimate option for talking reception or a quiz on a stand, provided you know that you are not hiring a biped, and that the fleet is ageing with no possible renewal since production stopped.

This is the main point to watch when a quote announces a “humanoid robot” without naming the model: the same expression covers Pepper and a recent biped, for an effect and a price that have nothing in common.
