Exhibition stand entertainment

Exhibition stand entertainment refers to any attraction set up on a trade show stand to stop the visitors walking down the aisle and start a conversation. Its aim is not to entertain but to convert passing footfall into sales meetings.

A trade show stand competes directly with hundreds of others, in an aisle where visitors walk quickly and look straight ahead. Stand entertainment solves one specific problem: creating a reason to stop. Everything else (sales pitch, brochures, product demonstration) only serves visitors who have already stopped.

Formats range from the classic to the rare: tastings, prize draws, simulators, virtual reality, mascots, live demonstrations, robots. The useful selection criterion is not originality for its own sake but the ratio between the cost and the number of conversations actually started.

Robot entertainment works because it creates a crowd that is visible from the aisle: visitors stop because others have stopped. It is a snowball effect, and that is what sets it apart from an attraction you only notice once you are standing in front of it.
